Hawai‘i Swim and Dive Compete in Intrasquad Meet

Honolulu-- Even though the 2020-2021 season is currently on hold in terms of travel and competition for the University of Hawai'i swim and dive team, it doesn't mean the program is taking any time off.

On December 11th and 12th, UH competed in an intrasquad meet at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. Over 40 events took place during the two days, challenging every member of the men's and women's squads before they break for finals and the holiday season. Over the last several years, UH has become a contender on the national scene with its growing roster of elite national and international student-athletes. While not a certified meet, Friday and Saturday showcased how many talented student-athletes are on the 2020-2021 roster.

For the Rainbow Warriors, the Green team took the victory 529.5 to 435.5 over the white team. Both junior Ian Venter and sophomore Tim Gallagher shined as they traded positions in the 100 and 200 backstroke. Venter captured the first-place finish in the 100 event, touching the wall at 48.70. While during the 200 event, Gallagher narrowly beat Venter by half a second, claiming the win with a time of 1:47.41.

Junior John Clarke continues to grow from up and comer to a reliable threat in the water. Clarke picked up two first-place victories in both the 200 and 500 free events. Joining Clark in clinching multiple events were senior Franz Adam and sophomore Justin Lisoway. Adam took home the 200 IM and the 100 breast, while Adam led the pack in both the 50 and 100 free.

On the Rainbow Wahine side, the white team outlasted the green by a count of 412 to 372. Senior Lucia Lassman led the squad as she picked up three first-place finishes. Lassman, a sprint specialist, notched wins in the 50 and 100 free events and the 100 fly.

Two juniors left their mark on the two-day meet as Emma Frey won the 100 and 200 back, followed by Jordyn Ryan touching the wall at 2:04.12 for victory in the 200 fly.
