Women's Tennis Travels To Take On No. 1 Stanford, UC Irvine

STANFORD, Calif.--The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team embarks on its first road trip of the Spring to take on No. 1-ranked and two-time defending national champions, Stanford On Thursday, Jan. 30 at 11:30 a.m.. The Rainbow Wahine will then stay on the road for their Big West opener two days later when they battle UC Irvine on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 7:00 a.m. HT.

Hawai'i continues their tough non-conference schedule, taking on their third-straight ranked opponent in Stanford. UH opened their dual matches with a 5-1 loss to No. 14 Washington and a hard fought, 5-2 loss to No. 16 Florida State almost two weeks ago at the UH Tennis Complex. Overall, Michelle Pits leads the 'Bows with a 3-1 singles record while Nikola Dolakova, Petra Melounova, and rookie Madison Kim all have two wins apiece early in the season. Hawai'i's two ranked players, No. 91 Bojana Markovic, a junior transfer from Texas, currently has a 1-4 record while No. 103 Satsuki Takamura has an 0-3 mark to start the season. Hawai'i's senior duo of Dolakova/Melounova and junior Bojana Markovic/freshman Rebecca Ehn have notched UH's only wins in doubles in tournament play. 

Stanford is coming off a solid showing in their ITA Kick-Off Weekend matches at home, sweeping both South Florida and Washington State last week. The Cardinal are led by No. 7 Michaela Gordon who is their No. 1 player and No. 49 Janice Shin who has been playing at No. 4. In doubles, 33rd-ranked Emily Arbuthnott and Angelica Blake are their No. 1 duo.

For UC Irvine, they opened their season with an exhibition loss last week at Cal Tech before notching their first win of the season against Westmont in a neutral site match at CSUN, 6-1. The Anteaters won on courts 2-5 in singles and swept Wesmont in doubles. Last year in the Big West, UCI finished in ninth place, while the Rainbow Wahine ended in second place to Long Beach State.
