Wils Shines in Debut for Hawai‘i at UCLA Bruin Diving Invite

Los Angeles, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i made an impression on the first day of competition at the UCLA Bruin Diving Invitational, taking first place in the women's one-meter dive, and third place in the men's three-meter event.

Newcomer, sophomore Daphne Wils, made her name be known as a diver to beat as she notched a first-place finish in the women's one-meter with a score of 601.05. Wils, a native of the Netherlands, is a four-time Dutch National Champion and recently enrolled at UH and with the Rainbow Wahine program. She led throughout the day finishing the prelims at No. 1 and finishing in the same spot.

Sophomore Max Burman worked his way from the No. 5 position of the prelims in the men's three-meter dive to a third-place spot with a total score of 703.15.

Both Wils and Burman will have the chance to build off their momentum along with the rest of the team as the events will be flipped on day two.
