Abbott in Third in Heptathlon After Day One of Big West Championships

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Through the first four events of the heptathlon on Friday at the Big West Multi-Event Championships at the Pauley Track Facility, University of Hawaiʻi's Calli-Ann Abbott is in third place while Aubrie Usui is in ninth. Day one of the heptathlon was comprised of the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m.

The heptathlon will conclude on Saturday, May 4 with the long jump, javelin and 800m.

Abbott has compiled 3,171 points and trails only UC Santa Barbara's Hope Bender (3,518 points) and UC Davis' Erinn Beattie (3,283 points) in the field made up of 11 competitors.

Abbott put together a pair of second-place finishes on Friday. The junior began the day by taking second in the 100m hurdles in 14.12 for 961 points. Her other second-place performance came in the shot put with a personal-record toss of 12.11m (39'8.75"), racking up 668 points.

She placed third in the 200m in a career-best time of 25.37. The performance earned her 853 points. In the high jump, Abbott set another personal record by clearing 1.56m (5'1.25") on her first attempt at the height. The height was the seventh-best among the competitors and was good enough for 689 points.

Usui has 2,616 points through four events with 792 of them coming in the 100m hurdles after a time of 15.38. She also scored 685 points in the 200m with a 27.33 finish.

In the field events, Usui cleared the high jump bar at 1.47m (4'9.75") for 588 points before putting up a personal-record shot put distance of 10.33m (33'10.75") to pick up 551 points.
