’Bows Extend Winning Streak to Four with 4-3 Win at CSUN

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Tyler Murray's eighth-inning RBI single turned out to be the game winner for the University of Hawaiʻi baseball team in a 4-3 road win at CSUN on Friday in the series opener at Matador Field.

The Rainbow Warriors (18-20, 7-6 Big West) and Matadors (17-23, 4-9 Big West) were tied at 3-3 when Murray came through in the clutch. The win extends Hawaiʻi's winning streak to four games and is win number 499 in head coach Mike Trapasso's career.

On the mound, Cade Smith delivered a quality start, going 6.1 innings and allowing two runs on five hits with three strikeouts. After Jeremy Wu-Yelland faced two batters, Preseason All-American Dylan Thomas picked up the win, pitching 2.2 innings without giving up a run.

Leadoff hitter Scotty Scott posted his fourth career game with three or more hits, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Maaki Yamazaki and Brennen Hancock picked up two hits apiece, and Ethan Lopez drove in two runs on one hit and a walk.

The 'Bows seized control of the game in the third when Lopez walked with the bases loaded to take a 1-0 lead.

Hawaiʻi went on to put up two more runs in the fifth for a 3-0 edge. Hancock knocked an RBI double to score Scott, and Lopez roped a single down the left field line to plate Hancock.

The UH lead lasted until the bottom of the seventh when CSUN stormed all the way back to level the scoring at 3-3.

In the next half inning, however, the Rainbow Warriors took the lead for good when Dallas Duarte scored on Murray's single through the left side of the infield.

Game two of the series versus CSUN is set for Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m. PT (10 a.m. HT).
