Women’s Golf Heads To Big West Championship

The University of Hawai'i women's golf team will head to the 2019 Big West Conference Championship, which runs Monday, April 15 through Wednesday, April 17 at the Moorpark Country Club in Moorpark, Calif.

The Rainbow Wahine are seeded seventh among the eight competing teams and begins Round 1 with a 9:10 a.m. PT start.

"We are looking forward to teeing it up at Moorpark Country Club for the Big West Conference Championship," head coach Stephen Bidne said. "Course management and one's short game will be the key factors in attacking this course, which is very hilly and includes many doglegs and fast paced greens. We have had a couple weeks home to rest, and have worked diligently on our short game and executing shots under pressure. We have also been doing extra conditioning in our morning workouts in preparation to the hilly course."

UC Davis is the top seed in the tournament followed by defending champion Long Beach State, Cal Poly, UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton, UC Riverside, UH, and CSUN. Hawai'i will be paired with UCR and host CSUN in Round 1.

"The players are hitting the ball with great command right now, and I am excited for all of our hard work to pay dividends and for the Rainbow Wahine to have a successful three days," Bidne added.

The teams will play a total of 54-holes – 18 on each day – at the 6,279-yard, par-72 course. The champion will be awarded following Wednesday's third round. Competing for UH are senior Kaci Masuda, junior Megan Ratcliffe, and sophomores Tyra Tonkham and Sahara Washington, and freshman Nicha Vorrasanpisut

The Rainbow Wahine finished in fifth place last season while Tonkham tied for third place individually. Masuda has three Top 20 finishes in three previous Big West Championships, including a tie for 11thin 2016.

Since re-joining the Big West in 2012, Hawai'i's best finish was runner-up in 2015. At the time, UH's three-round score of 887 was its best in program history and its first two rounds (291-290) were the best single-round scores in over a dozen years.
