FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.—The march to the NCAA Championships continues for the University of Hawai'i diving squad as the NCAA field splits into five zones from Mar. 11 to Mar. 16.
UH will compete in Zone E with various teams ranging from the Pac-12 to the Western Athletic Conference and more at Northern Arizona University from Mar. 11 to Mar. 13.
Each member of the men's and women's teams will compete in the Zone E event as senior
Johan Sandell headlines the group. Over the last three seasons, Sandell has competed well in the Zone E event, qualifying for the NCAA Championships the last two seasons. Last season he qualified for the one-meter, three-meter, and platform dives of the NCAAs after finishing in the top six of all three events in Zone E.
Outside of the MPSF Championships, freshman
Max Burman will be competing on the largest stage of his young career. Burman won both the one-meter and the three-meter dives of the conference championships and can take the next step of making a significant impact in the coming week to punch his ticket to the NCAAs.
On the women's side UH has numerous divers who can qualify for the NCAAs including junior
Monica Gavaris, as well as sophomores
Ivy Houser and
Victoria Moretti. All three won individual events at the MPSF Championships, and each will have a chance to make the NCAAs for the first time in their careers.
