Hawai'i Baseball Earns 15-3 Win Over Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio - A standout day at the plate for the University of Hawaiʻi baseball team coupled with a gem on the mound by Logan Pouelsen helped the Rainbow Warriors earn a 15-3 victory over Ohio State on Sunday at Bill Davis Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.

Hawaiʻi (10-14) put up 15 runs for the first time since a 15-8 victory over Pepperdine on Feb. 26, 2015. Out-hitting Ohio State (13-11) by a 19-7 margin on the day, the Rainbow Warriors racked up their most hits since a 20-hit effort on Feb. 14, 2016 at UH Hilo.

All nine players in UH's lineup recorded at least one hit with Alex Baeza, Maaki Yamazaki and Tyler Best picking up three hits apiece.

On the mound for his second start of the season, Pouelsen went 7.0 innings allowing just one earned run on four hits with four strikeouts to pick up the win. Cade Smith tossed the final 2.0 innings striking out three and yielding one run on three hits.

Ohio State got on the board first in the bottom of the first, but UH was able to respond quickly to gain the upper hand.

Hawaiʻi put up four runs in the second, two in the third, four in the fourth and two in the fifth for a commanding 12-1 lead. The Buckeyes got runs back in the sixth and ninth, but UH added late runs in the seventh (two runs) and eighth (one run) for the 13-run victory.

Ethan Lopez knocked in a game-high three runs, all coming on a three-run home runs in the fourth. Freshmen Scotty Scott and Best had two RBIs apiece, while Daylen Calicdan, Dallas Duarte, Yamazaki and Baeza all had one RBI on Sunday.

Entering the game, UH's season high for runs was nine and hits was 15.
