Track and Field Closes Home Schedule with Standout Performances at Rainbow Relays

HONOLULU - Competing at home for the final time in her University of Hawaiʻi track and field career, senior Raion Black won two individual races and guided the 4x400m relay team to victory to highlight the Rainbow Wahine's effort at the Rainbow Relays on Saturday at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex.

"I'm really pleased with the competitive efforts put in by the Rainbow Wahine this weekend," Head Coach Tim Boyce said. "Kudos to our seniors for the way they stepped up and led their teammates to outstanding performances. We had many great highlights on both days. Raion (Black) closed down the Rainbow track on the 4x400 victory after two impressive lifetime bests in the 100 and 200. Big things are ahead for this group in the weeks to come. Mahalo to our coaches, staff, officials and volunteers, and especially to our visitors from San Jose State and College of Charleston. We hope they'll come back again soon."

Black set personal records in both the 100m (11.88) and 200m (24.41). In the 4x400m, Black teamed with Kristen LaCosse, Martina Latting and Natasha Currence for a 3:54.81 finish.

Latting also took second in the 100m (12.11) and third in the 200m (25.84). LaCosse turned in some of the best times in her collegiate career, clocking in at 1:01.11 to win the 400m hurdles and 14.39 to take second in the 100m hurdles.

Spanning multiple events, Calli-Ann Abbott won the 100m hurdles (14.21 - personal record) and placed second in the long jump (5.44m).

Brittany Kamau led UH in the discus, finishing with a mark of 40.62m to win the event.

The Rainbow Wahine shined in the pole vault on the day with Nina Bean and Krista Rados both clearing heights of 3.65m (11'11.75"). The vaults are both career bests for Bean and Rados.

UH's 4x100m relay team of Charlie Poretti, Abbott, Malia Miley and Britney Price put together a winning time of 48.79.

In team scoring, Hawaiʻi defeated College of Charleston, 102.5 - 89.5, and outscored San Jose State by a 110-45 final score.

Next up for the Rainbow Wahine is a trip to the Bay Area. UH is scheduled to have entries at the Stanford Invitational (March 29-30) and the SF State Distance Carnival (March 28-30).
