Women’s Golf, Masuda Look To Defend Titles At Anuenue Classic

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team will look to defend its title at the Ānuenue Spring Break Classic Thursday, March 21 through Saturday, March 23 at Waikoloa Resorts Kings' Course on Hawai'i Island. The seventh annual event was held at Kapalua's Bay Course each year of the tournament since 2012.

Senior Kaci Masuda is the defending individual champion after carding a 4-under 212 last year for her first collegiate victory. The Rainbow Wahine tied with 29th-ranked Louisville after both teams posted identical scores of 879.

This year's field includes eight teams, headlined by 59th-ranked Oklahoma State. Also participating along with UH are Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, Hawai'i Pacific, Japan's Osaka Gakuin, Towson, and Utah Valley.

Participants will play a total of 54 holes, 18 on each day at the par-72, 6,099-yard course with a shotgun start beginning at 7:30 a.m.  The Kings' Course recently played host to the Amer Ari Invitational last month in which the men's golf team annually co-hosts with UH-Hilo.

UH's team title last year was just its fourth in program history while Masuda became just the seventh Rainbow Wahine to earn medalist honors.

The Rainbow Wahine are coming off an ninth place finish at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational last week. The Ānuenue Classic is the fourth and final tournament that UH hosts each season. Hawai'i will next compete in the Big West Championship, April 15-17 in Moorpark, Calif.
