IRVINE, Calif. – Following her standout performances over the last five games, University of Hawaiʻi women's water polo senior
Irene Gonzalez earned Big West Player of the Week, it was announced on Wednesday.
Hawaiʻi (11-2), which is ranked fifth in the nation in the CWPA National Poll, went 4-1 last week thanks in large part to Gonzalez's production. The senior from Barcelona, Spain tallied 13 goals, seven assists and nine steals in UH's five games.
The All-American's week was highlighted by tying a career high with six goals in UH's 14-6 win over No. 10 Pacific on Sunday. In a Saturday morning game, Gonzalez registered five goals in the Rainbow Wahine's near upset of No. 4 Cal in a 12-10 defeat.
It was the second time Gonzalez has won the award this season and the fourth time in her career.
