Game Notes-
Â
• UH will close out the year of 2019 with its final non-conference game of the season against the University of Pennsylvania (8-1). With the Rainbow Wahine at 6-6, a win on Tuesday would give them their first season over the .500 mark against non-conference opponents since the 2015-16 season.
Â
• Before the matchup with Penn, UH traveled to Idaho for its final non-conference road game resulting in a 67-52 loss. In the setback, UH had a hard time scoring being held to under 55 points for the fourth time this team, resulting in a 1-3 record in those games.
Â
• For the first time this season, there wasn't a single 'Bows to register double-digit points in the loss to the Vandals. Junior forward
Amy Atwell led the team with nine points. The scoring anomaly only happened twice in 2018-19.
Â
• The loss at Idaho was lopsided as the home team went wire-to-wire against the green and white. UH did the same thing earlier this season against UTSA on Nov. 22.Â
Â
• Against Idaho UH had its best free throw shooting game all season going 9-for-9. With one game remaining till conference play, the 'Bows rank No. 1 among Big West teams in free throw percentage at 75 percent.
Â
• Penn is a fairly uncommon opponent for UH as the two programs have only played twice before, the most recent being on Jan. 2, 2016. The Quakers knocked off the 'Bows 64-54 at the Stan Sheriff evening up the all-time series at 1-1. The other matchup happened back in 1985 with UH coming out on top 77-63. Both games took place on the island of O'ahu, with UH never traveling to Philadelphia to face-off with Penn.
Â
HEADING INTO CONFERENCE
UH has the opportunity to roll into Big West action with a 7-5 record, and if they do, UH will be one of two teams to go into January with a winning record, the other being Cal State Fullerton. The difference between the Titans and the 'Bows though in terms of schedule is CSF didn't play a single Power 5 school. On the flip side, UH played four in four consecutive games and went 2-2.
Â
GET HER THE BALL
Amy Atwell's ability to score hasn't been a surprise as she showed signs of being a go-to scorer during the first few seasons with the program when she was healthy. So far this season she has led the team in scoring five times, leading to a 3-2 record overall. She also ranks No. 5 in the Big West in shooting percentage at 48 percent, while coming in at No. 3 in three-point field goal percentage at 42 percent.
