'Bow Bits
- UH opens the 11th annual Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic against former conference rival UTEP. Also in the tournament are Ball State, Boise State, Georgia Tech, Houston, Portland, and No. 22 Washington.
- UH and UTEP faced off every year between 1980 to 2005 (with the exception of 1997 & '98) as members of the Western Athletic Conference and will meet for the first time in 14 years.
- The Rainbow Warriors are coming off its most lopsided win of the year, a 94-73 win over Samford on Dec. 15.
- Eddie Stansberry led five Rainbow Warriors in double-digts with 23 points and is averaging a team-high 19.7 ppg on the season.
- Stansberry ranks fourth in the NCAA in three-pointers made per game (3.80)
- UH is 7-1 at home this year and have won six straight at the Stan Sheriff Center.
- Following its game against UTEP, UH will face either Ball State or No. 22 Washington.
About UTEP: The Miners are 8-2 with their only losses coming at New Mexico St. and at Houston...UTEP has already won as many games as they did all of last season… UTEP played at Houston in a non-bracketed Diamond Head Classic game on Thursday night before both teams head to Honolulu...the Miners lost 77-57 after being held to just 33 percent shooting on the night...junior forward Bryson Williams leads the team at 19.6 ppg and 7.0 rpg...prior to their loss at Houston, the Miners captured the WestStar Bank Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational with wins over North Carolina A&T and UC Irvine.
UH in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic: UH is 13-14 all-time in the tournament (three wins vacated in 2012 and '13 due to NCAA sanctions)...UH is 3-7 in DHC openers and has advanced to the championship bracket three times overall...UH's best finish is third place, which occurred in 2014 and '15...UH finished fifth last year after going 2-1.
