Men’s Basketball Begins December Homestand This Sunday

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team returns to the Stan Sheriff Center to play the first of five straight home games in the month of December when it hosts Samford on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 3:30 p.m. The game will be part of a doubleheader with the Rainbow Wahine basketball team which faces Hope International at 1:00 p.m.

Coaches: Acting head coach Chris Gerlufsen is in his first season at UH (6-3). Scott Padgett is in his sixth season at Samford (80-97).

'Bow Bits
  • The Rainbow Warriors will face Samford for the third time overall and the first time since dropping a pair of home games in 1984.
  • UH is coming off an 89-64 loss at No. 13 Oregon on Dec. 7. The game was tied 34-34 at half before the Ducks pulled away in the second.
  • Eddie Stansberry scored a game-high 24 points in the loss, including a career-high seven three-pointers.
  • Stansberry ranks eighth in the NCAA in three-pointers made per game (3.67).
  • UH is 6-1 at home this year and have won five straight at the SSC. Samford is 1-5 on the road and are coming off a win at Houston Baptist on Dec. 7.
  • Chris Gerlufsen continues to serve as acting head coach while Eran Ganot is on medical leave.
  • Following its game versus Samford, UH will host the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, opening versus UTEP on Sunday, Dec. 22.
