UH NOTES:
• UH is coming off a 1-1 showing in the Bank of Hawai'i Classic a week ago. The Rainbow Wahine played smothering defense against UTSA, holding the Roadrunners to a season-low 50 points, cruising to a double-digit win at 62-50. The second game saw the 'Bows falter to an upstart squad in Texas Southern, 74-57, where UH struggled to find the basket in the third quarter. The tournament championship went to Utah, as the Utes knocked off both UTSA and Texas Southern.

• Junior forward Amy Atwell has done one thing reasonably well this season, and it has been scoring. Atwell leads the team with 10.4 points per game and has scored double digits in three of the first five games. Due to her combined 26 points, she was named to the Bank of Hawai'i All-Tournament team.

• The defense has been a calling card of late for UH, even dating back to last season. When UH holds teams to under 50 points, UH is 13-6. But when teams score 70 points or more in the same time frame, the 'Bows are 0-8.

• During Big West play last season, forward Myrrah Joseph emerged as a threat on the boards and potential scorer in the middle. In the early going of her sophomore campaign, Joseph is tied with Lauren Rewers with the team lead in rebounds at 31 and is the No. 4 scorer at 6.2 points per game.

• Every year since 1980, UH has hosted one or multiple tournaments, continuing a tradition of making Honolulu, O'ahu, a destination for regular-season tournaments for various schools on the mainland.

• The most notable tournament was recently concluded as the Bank of Hawai'i Classic, serving as the premier tournament. Still, in recent memory, the Showdown or Shootout tournament has played a significant role. This year's tournament features three strong programs, but recent memory has seen the likes of Stanford, Purdue, USC, Oregon, Mississippi State, Washington State, and North Carolina.

REBOUND + PRESSURE SHOOTERS = WINS
So far this season when UH out rebounds their opponents and hold them to under 40% from the floor, most times UH comes out with the win. The 'Bows are 3-0 this season when they outrebound their opponents, and they're 3-1 when they outshoot them. Once everyone does their jobs, post players grab boards, and perimeter players apply pressure, UH is in the driver seat.

LONE STAR KIND OF YEAR
The 2019 regular season schedule for UH is packed with all sorts of teams in terms of schemes and skill set, but there is one common denominator between four of them, they're from Texas. UTSA and Texas Southern each played UH in the Bank of Hawai'I Classic, while this week, North Texas and Texas come to the island of O'ahu. If it was wasn't for NC State, the 'Bows would have played four straight teams from the Lone Star State in consecutive games.
