KOHALA COAST, Hawai'i—The Unversity of Hawai'i women's tennis team battled the defending NCAA champions, Stanford on Sunday morning at the Hawaii Tennis Center at the Fairmont Orchid on the Kohala Coast on the Big Island of Hawai'i. The Rainbow Wahine played well, but fell to the Cardinal, 5-2 in its final action of the Fall season.
 
In UH's only dual match of the Fall, it was Stanford that captured the doubles point for the first point of the match. Stanford's No. 1 Michaela Gordon and Janice Shin blanked UH's Petra Melounova and Madison Kim, 6-0, and on the No. 3 court, Niluka Madurawe and Nicole Mossmer held off UH's Nikola Dolakova and Michelle Pits, 6-4.
 
In singles, Hawai'i earned a pair of wins. UH's No. 2 and 103^rd-ranked Takamura defeated Stanford's Angelica Blake in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Later on the No. 5 court, Hawai'i rookie Kim then defeated Stanford's Mossmer in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. UH's No. 1 and 91^st-ranked Bojana Markovic was edged out by Stanford's 7^th-ranked Gordon, 7-6 (3), 6-3. Both UH players Dolakova and Pits fell in very tight matches. Dolakova came up just short against No. 49 Janic Shin on the No. 3 court, 7-5, 7-5, while Pits also fell by a break in both sets to Sara Choy, 6-4, 6-4.
 
Hawai'i returns to the courts this spring hosting the Weinman Foundation Invitational tournament Jan 9-11, 2020 at the UH Tennis Complex.
