HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team concluded the 2019 Rainbow Wahine Invitational facing Washington State on Saturday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex.
A day after winning three doubles matches, Hawai'i fell in all three matches on Saturday. UH's duos of
Michelle Pits/
Alzbeta Houbova and
Petra Melounova/
Sophia Storch fell by just a break, 6-4 to Washington State's Hikaru Sato/Tiffany Mylonas and Michaela Bayerlova/Aneta Miksovska respectively.
In singles, Hawai'i took three matches to a third set super-tiebreaker, but only UH's
Michelle Pits was able to come away with a win. Pits knocked off No. 83 Michaela Bayerlova in a solid win over a ranked player, 6-4, 2-6, 10-3. Hawai'i's
Maayan Sela split one-set decisions against two different Cougars. Sela won her first mat 6-2 over WSU's Yang Lee, but fell to Hikaru Sato, 6-3.
Both
Nikola Dolakova and Houbova fell in hard fought singles matches. Dolakova fell in the first set, but battled back to capture the second before falling in the third set super tie-breaker to Savanna Ly-Nguyen, 5-7, 7-5, 10-6. Washington State's Aneta Miksovska took the first set, but Houbova fought back to even the match at 1-1 as she won the second set by tie-breaker, 7-5. Miksovska, however, held off Houbova in the third set, super-tiebreaker, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 10-8.
The Rainbow Wahine continue their homestand, taking on both Baylor (Jan. 12) and CSUN (Jan. 13) in their Big West opener next week at the UH Tennis Complex.
