HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i men's and women's swim teams opened up its 2019 portion of the schedule with a head-to-head meet against visiting Wisconsin on Friday evening at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

As she has done all season junior long-distance swimmer,
Phoebe Hines shined collecting three first-place finishes on the day. Hines, the current holder of the best time in the NCAA of the 1650 freestyle event claimed victories in the 1000 freestyle, 500 freestyle, and 200 freestyle. In both the 1000 and 500 freestyle events Hines finished more than seven seconds better than the second place finisher from Wisconsin.

On the men's side, senior
Metin Aydin stood above the rest as he notched two first-place finishes. The first of the day came in the 400 individual medley with a finishing time of 3:57.57. Aydin added another No. 1 finish in the 100 backstroke touching the wall at 49.09, narrowly defeating Cam Tysoe at 49.24.

Other top finishes by UH included freshman
Talon Lindquist as he clocked in at 4:34.46 in the men's 500 freestyle event and sophomore
Kionna Clayton finished with a time of 1:04.29 in the women's 100 breaststroke.

Both squads came up short in team totals to the Badgers as the men fell 134-109 and the women at 146-97.
