HIMEJI, Hyogo, Japan--The Univerisity of Hawai'i women's tennis team edged out Himeji in its first ever exhibition match overseas, 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon in Himeji, Hyogo, Japan.
Himeji captured the doubles point winning on courts No. 1 nd No. 2, but UH's duo of
Michelle Pits and
Alzbeta Houbova notched the 'Bows' only doubles win of the day, knocking off Nagomi Tanaka and Mashiro Itokawa, 6-2.
Already down 1-0, the 'Bows needed to pick up four wins on the singles side. No. 6

Petra Melounova defeated Yuki Fujiwara, 6-4, 6-1. But Himeji's Nana Matsushita evened the match at 2-2 after defeating UH's
Roxanne Resma in straight sets. Hawai'i's
Maayan Sela fell on the No. 2 court to Ayu Sakai, 7-6(3), 2-6, 3-6. But the Rainbow Wahine posted wins at No. 3 and No. 4 to win the match. On the No. 3 court,
Nikola Dolakova came back from a set down to defeat Kyoko Miyata, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. No. 4 Pits also came back after dropping the first set to win in three over Tanaka, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
The Rainbow Wahine will play one more exhibition match on Thursday afternoon at Sonoda University in Amagasaki-shi, Hyogo, Japan.
