HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i diving team returned to action with the first of three days in the Wally Nakamoto Diving Invite at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
The men's team finished with a clean sweep of the top three spots in the three-meter springboard event. Senior
Johan Sandell finished at No. 1 with a final score of 358.20. Teammates, freshman
Max Burman, and junior
Grant Newcombe finish at No. 2 and No. 3.
Sandell bested his score from a season ago in the same event at 354.60, along with his second-place finish. Newcombe finished in the same spot as last season but improved his score from 327.30 to 329.10.
On the women's side, the order of finish wasn't the same, but UH did take three consecutive spots. Sophomore
Ivy Houser, junior
Jami Stone, and redshirt senior
Monica Gavaris finished No.5 through No. 7. The trio was separated merely by two points and a few tenths of each other. All three finished within eight points of cracking the top three positions.
UH will be back in action tomorrow with the men competing in the one-meter springboard at 10:30 a.m. HT, followed by the women's three-meter springboard event at 12:30 p.m. HT.
The final of day of competition on Saturday has been moved up in start time by 30 minutes with the platform dives beginning at 12:30 p.m. HT.
