Box Score HONOLULU - The sixth-ranked University of Hawaiʻi water polo team capped off an undefeated 2019 Rainbow Invite, taking down 19th-ranked San Diego State by a 17-9 final score on Saturday morning at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

In the victory to improve the Rainbow Wahine to 3-0, senior attacker
Irene Gonzalez led all scorers with five goals.

In the opening frame, the Rainbow Wahine struck first with freshman
Maxine Schaap finding the back of the net at the 6:41 mark. The Aztecs (1-2) responded as Shelby Kraft scored in the ensuing possession. UH and SDSU traded goals, with the Rainbow Wahine leading 4-3 through one quarter.

Hawaiʻi kept its offensive mindset in the second quarter, outscoring the Aztecs 6-3. Sophomore
Carmen Baringo and Gonzalez paced the Rainbow Wahine scoring two goals apiece in the period.

In quarter three, UH freshman goalie
Bridget Layburn entered the match for her collegiate debut. She finished with six saves and three goals against in the second half.

In the final frame, San Diego State's Kraft tried to keep her team in the game, scoring her fourth goal on SDSU's first possession. The Rainbow Wahine scored three straight, however, to put the Aztecs away.

Hawaiʻi limited the Aztecs to 9-of-33 (.273) shooting. For the Rainbow Wahine,
Femke Aan and
Lalelei Mata'afa tallied three goals apiece.Â
