The University of Hawai'i's ground game the past two seasons was occupied by virtually one player,
Diocemy Saint Juste, who left the program as one of the school's best running backs all-time. But the group of players looking to fill his spot is impressive to say the least.
Saint Juste etched his name throughout the record book, setting the program's single-season rushing record (1,510 yards) and was No. 2 on the all-time rushing list (3,102 yards). Four lettermen and three redshirts are vying to be his replacement.
Sophomore
Fred Holly III and senior
Mel Davis have the most game experience. Holly, who had a standout prep career at Norte Vista High where he tallied career totals of 5,752 yards and 69 touchdowns, played in two contests last season and carried the ball nine times for 27 yards. Davis, a senior from Compton, Calif., who earned a year back due to injury, saw his most action in 2015, appearing in eight games and ranking second on the team with 218 yards on 59 carries and tying for the team-lead with six rushing touchdowns. He spent the past two seasons recovering from an injury.
Sophomore
Dayton Furuta will make the switch from tight end to running back. Last season Furuta appeared in all 12 games as a backup tight end and was a heavy contributor on the UH special teams.
Redshirt freshman
Miles Reed is a graduate of Centennial High School, earning the nickname "Bam Bam," which might refer to his style of play after rushing for 2,361 yards and 35 touchdowns in his senior season.
Hekili Keliiliki, a redshirt freshman served a two-year Mandarin-speaking church mission in Brisbane, Australia before redshirting in the 2017 season. In 2015, he was ranked the No. 5 fullback and No. 14 overall recruit in the state of Arkansas.
Justice Augafa, a junior from Anchorage, Alaska, moved from safety, a position he played while redshirting in 2017, to running back during the spring.
