Noah Borden, punter
Stan Gaudion and place kicker
Alex Trifonovitch but lose the speed and agile skill that kickoff returner
Keelan Ewaliko possessed.
Noah Borden, a senior from Pearl City, O'ahu, is a three-year starter as the team's long snapper. In three seasons, he has had no bad snaps and last season, he took over both short and long snapping. For the second straight year, Borden is on the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, an award given to the player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
Punter
Stan Gaudion, who bolstered the Mountain West's fourth-best punting average at 42.1 yards per kick, was recently named to the Ray Guy Award Watch List, an award given to the nation's top punter. The redshirt sophomore from Melbourne, Australia appeared in all 12 games last season, with only one touchback in 58 attempts and 19 punts pinned inside the opponent's 20 yard line.
Placekicker
Alex Trifonovitch played in all 12 games last season, taking all of the team's PAT attempts and was 3-of-5 in field goals. The 2015 Punahou School graduate converted 33-of-35 extra points, including five in wins over UMass, Western Carolina and San José State. Among his three field goals – all against UNLV – was a long of 38.
Junior
Ryan Meskell performed all kickoff duties last season, averaging 57.7 yards per kick with two touchbacks. He also converted 1-of-4 field goal attempts with his only make a 29-yarder at UMass.
Also competing for placekicking duties include redshirt freshman
Michael Boyle and transfers
Nino Alibegic (Meridian, Idaho) and
Kekoa Sasaoka (Kailua, O'ahu).
Junior receiver
John Ursua is a likely candidate at returner. In 2016, the Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i native logged eight punt returns for 63 yards, which included a 30-yard return against New Mexico.
Long Beach City College transfer
Cedric Byrd is also among the candidates. The Los Angeles, Calif., native averaged 28.9 yards per return and had 22 punt returns for 324 yards, earning first-team all-conference honors.
