HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i men's volleyball head coach
Charlie Wade secured the commitment of Alaka'i Todd of Punahou School in Honolulu for the 2019 season.
"We are excited to welcome Alaka'i into the Warrior volleyball 'ohana," Wade said. "Alaka'i is one of the best players in the state and joins a group of other top players in the state who will be joining our team next year. Alaka'i has been coming to our games his entire life and we've known him and his family for a long time. We are excited to work with him and help him develop. With his size and athleticism he has a very bright future as a Rainbow Warrior."
In December, 'Iolani School standout Cole Hogland signed with the Warriors and is also regarded as one of the state's top players.
Todd, a two-year varsity letterman, helped the Buffanblu to the 2017 HHSAA title, their sixth consecutive state championship. Punahou defended its Interscholastic League of Honolulu title this season and is the top-seed in the HHSAA state tournament which begins next week.
The Kailua, O'ahu native plays for the Spike and Serve VC, which he helped the 18U team place third in the SCBA Boys National Qualifiers in 2018 and secured a spot at Junior Nationals. In 2017, his 17U team took the bronze medal at Junior Nationals. Todd also competed for the A'o a Koa VC and Ka 'Ulukoa VC, the latter of which he led the 13U squad win the gold medal at the 2013 Junior Nationals.
Todd is also a skilled beach volleyball player, having finished runner-up in the 2017 Hawai'i State Prep Volleyball Championships. In 2016, he placed third at the state championship. In addition, he has competed in USA Volleyball's High Performance in 2013 and '16).
In addition to Todd and Hogland, the Warriors also signed Devon Johnson and Filip Humler for the 2019 season.
