Track Opens Busy Week at Pacific Coast Intercollegiate

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The first day of a very busy week of competition produced a lot of positives for the University of Hawai'i track and field team, opening competition on Thursday the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate to kick off four meets in three days in southern California.
 
Keeping up with her trends this season, sophomore Lily Lowe not only earned high jump victory at the PCI at Long Beach State's Jack Rose Track, she also reached her Outdoor-best mark at 5-10 (1.78m) for the second time this season.
 
Earning a new conference meet qualification, senior Emily Stack earned a new career-best mark of 64.99 to finish 10th in the 400m hurdles, while surpassing the Big West qualification standard.
 
Field events saw numerous personal bests, as sophomore Calli-Ann Abbott reached 17-11.00 (5.46m) and freshman Britney Price hit 17-08.00 (5.38m) to finish 13th and 15th in the long jump. In the hammer throw, sophomore Malissa Humanic hit a new PR of 150-03 (45.79m) and senior Mary Kamau notched season bests in the shot put 41-08.75 (12.72m) and discus throw 131-04 (40.03m).
 
In addition to her long jump mark, Abbott also recorded a season-best 14.29 in the 100m hurdles to finish 14th.
 
In the 400m dash, sophomore Tatiana Desender registered a new Outdoor collegiate best at 58.69, while classmate Natasha Currence earned a new personal best at 59.36. The 100m dash also saw PRs for Price (12.40) and Charlie Poretti (12.68), while the 200m saw several; Desender at 26.09, Currence (26.22) and Poretti (26.40). 
 
Redshirt junior Raion Black ran 25.93 and topped the UH 200m runners with her best time since the 2014 Big West Championships.
 
Junior Danielle Girard also reached a season-best 2:18.73 to finish 16th in the 800m, while senior distance convert Kendall Horan recorded a career-best time of 2:22.17.
 
On Friday, the Rainbow Wahine will split ranks and send throwers to Azusa, Calif. for the Bryan Clay Invitational, while three will head to the Mt. SAC relays in Torrance and five will head right back to Jack Rose Track for the opening day of the Beach Invitational.
