KAPALUA, Maui – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team remains in the lead at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic following Tuesday's second round at Kapalua's Bay Course.
Despite playing with only four golfers due to
Sahara Washington's illness, the Rainbow Wahine managed to shoot 289, one stroke better than Monday's opening round, and have a 579 total. UH leads 29
th-ranked Louisville by two strokes heading into Wednesday's final round.
UH freshman
Emma Lower tallied six birdies on her round for a 3-under 69 and currently sits in second place at 3-under 141, one stroke behind Louisville's Lauren Hartlage, who also shot 69. Lower, of Mesa, Ariz., had four birdies on her back nine including a three-footer on 18.
UH junior
Kaci Masuda, the Round 1 leader, fired a 1-over 73 and is in third place at 2-under 142. The Pearl City, O'ahu native got to 6-under for the tournament before struggling at the turn, going 5-over during a four-hole stretch. She managed to save her round by finishing 1-under on her last five holes.
Sophomore
Megan Ratcliffe went 2-under on her back nine and carded even par 72 and is tied for eighth at 2-over 146. The British Columbia native posted three birdies during a four-hole stretch late in her round. After shooting 4-over on the front nine, freshman
Tyra Tonkham went 1-under on the back to finish 3-over 75 and is tied for 37
th at 153.
In the team standings, Long Beach State posted the low round of the day at 284 and is in third place at 588. Oregon State is in fourth at 598 while UC Davis is fifth at 599.
The Rainbow Wahine entered the day knowing they were playing without freshman
Sahara Washington, who was forced to withdraw due to illness. The Universal City, Texas native shot 75 on Monday. Senior
Lauren Kirkwood, who was competing as an individual, also withdrew due to injury.
Round 3 begins with a 7:45 a.m. HT shotgun start.
