HONOLULU – The University of Hawaii track and field team will stay home this week and host its first, and only home meet of the 2018 season, with Nevada and San Jose State coming to the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex for the Rainbow Relays.
Â
Coming off a week that saw the Rainbow Wahine finish fourth as a team in their Outdoor opener at the Hornet Invitational in Sacramento, Hawai'i will look to put a larger group in competition at home in the double-dual-formatted meet with the Wolf Pack and Spartans.
Â
Last week, sophomore
Lily Lowe matched the meet's top high jump mark and her best height from last season, finishing second at 5-09.25 (1.76m). Making her Outdoor debut, freshman
Kristen LaCosse was fourth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:03.27, also reaching ninth in the long jump with a leap of 18-05.75 (5.63m). The pair combined for the final two legs of the UH 4x400m relay, which came in fourth with a combined time of 3:57.22.
Â
After the opening week for UH, Lowe leads the Big West high jumpers and ranks among the top 10 nationally, while LaCosse is fifth among Big West hurdlers and long jumpers.
Making this year's debut in throws, sophomore
Alexis Brenzil took over the top conference spot in the javelin with a third-place Hornet Invitational throw of 156-00 (47.55m). Meanwhile, junior
Karen Bulger was fourth at 139-08 (42.58m) and ranks third in the league. Bulger and junior
Meg Jackson also rank back to back at seventh and eighth in the shot put after tossing 41-7.25 (12.68m) and 41-5.25 (12.63m), respectively.
Â
The meet is scheduled to begin on Friday afternoon with Brenzil and Bulger taking first crack in the javelin at 3:00 p.m. HT., followed by high jump, hammer throw and triple jump. The 800m and 3,000m will be the lone first-day running events, beginning at 6:15 p.m. HT
Â
Saturday's action will begin at 8:30 a.m. HT with the 3,000m steeplechase. The field events open on the long jump at 9:00 a.m. HT. The meet will conclude in the 4x400m relays, with final gun scheduled for 11:45 a.m. HT.

Results from the weekend's meet will be available on the UH track and field schedule at

Â
The Rainbow Relays return for the ninth consecutive year, now under the guidance of first-year head coach
Tim Boyce, keeping a long-standing Hawai'i tradition alive. In its heyday, the Rainbow Relays was one of the premiere track and field meets in the state. The event started in 1924 and lasted for more than 50 years until being suspended a few years after UH dropped its men's track and field program in 1976. With the return of women's track and field in 2000, the Rainbow Relays was revived after an 18-year hiatus in 2003, starting its current run during the 2010 season.
