SEATTLE – The University of Hawaii track and field squad wrapped up a two-meet weekend and capped off the 2018 Indoor season on Sunday with the UW Open at Dempsey Indoor.
For the fourth consecutive meet at Dempsey Indoor, sophomore
Lily Lowe took the high jump, clearing 5-08.75 (1.75m) for the second straight day. She will head into the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championships with the second-highest jump in the league. Her current mark ties for 19th in the NCAA.
The 400m runners stepped to the challenge in Sunday's final tune-up before the conference meet. Sophomore
Tatiana Desender reached a career best, moving to fourth in the UH all-time top performances with a time of 58.34, winning her heat and finishing 13th. Meanwhile sophomore
Natasha Currence and freshman
Paris Allred each recorded personal bests at 61.11 and 61.45, respectively.
Junior
Amanda Bowers won her flight in the pole vault, rising to fourth among the UH all-time top 10 with a height of 12-07.25 (3.84m). With her effort, Bowers finished second at the meet, missing the top spot by only six inches.
In the weight throw, sophomore
Michelle Altice cut close to her personal best with a mark of 47-07.25 (14.51m), finishing 12th. Freshman
Meg Jackson earned a personal best in her second meet of the year, reaching 38-09.00 (11.81m), while sophomore
Malissa Humanic was 19th at 45-00.25 (13.72m).
During the 600m run, senior
Emily Stack reached sixth on the UH all-time list with a career-best time of 1:41.55 to finish eighth, while
Alison Bowman ran 1:43.92 to surpass her home nation of Guam's record and rank 10th on the UH top performances.
"Overall, this weekend was a very good set of meets as we move on to the MPSF Championships," first-year head coach
Tim Boyce said. "We're very pleased with their effort and are looking forward to our return in two weeks."
With the regular season in the books, the Rainbow Wahine return to Dempsey Indoor for the fifth time this year on Feb. 23-24 for the MPSF Indoor Championships.
