GAME NOTES
• UH comes into Wednesday's matchup with a three-game losing streak after finishing the Rainbow Wahine Showdown winless against American, Florida Gulf Coast, and No. 8 Stanford.
• Junior forward
Makenna Woodfolk was the standout of the showdown for UH, averaging 15 points and seven rebounds per game over the three-day, three-game stretch.
• Idaho has dropped two of its last three contest but is most recently coming off a 70-63 victory at home against San Francisco on Dec. 1.
• The Vandals, a member of the Big Sky Conference, are currently 1-1 against the Big West this season with an 88-73 win at home against CSUN, and a loss on the road at Long Beach State, 70-63 on Nov. 24 in the Beach Classic.
• The 'Bows have yet to play a Big Sky team this season and Idaho will be the lone opponent on the schedule hailing from the conference. UH is 17-4 all-time against teams from the Big Sky, and most recently played Idaho State last season, dropping the 64-62 affair at home in overtime.
• The overall series between UH and Idaho favors the 'Bows since the beginning of the series in 1982. UH holds a 10-6 record against the Vandals but have gone 2-6 over the last eight meetings. On the island of O'ahu, UH holds a 7-2 advantage in the series.
• UH, and Idaho were formally a part of the Western Athletic Conference from 2006 to 2012 before UH eventually broke off and joined the Big West, followed by Idaho jumping to the Big Sky. Wednesday's meeting will be the first time the two schools have met since being a part of the WAC.
• Idaho won the last meeting between the two programs on Mar. 3, 2012 with a final score of 69-50 in Moscow, Idaho. UH, previously beat the Vandals 72-60 on Feb. 5, 2011, in Honolulu.
UNLIKELY CONNECTION
UH and Idaho share a unique commonality amongst their rosters. For UH, sophomore center
Lauren Rewers hails from the Gem state and is the only player on the all-time UH roster to come from Idaho as she is a resident of Coeur d'Alene. While on the flip side, freshman Chasey Milne on the Vandals roster is a resident of Honolulu, O'ahu and recently graduated from Maryknoll high school.
GOOD TO SEE YOU BACK BRUDDAH
The head coach of the Vandals for the last five years has been Jon Newlee, and his name may ring a bell to Rainbow Wahine fans as he previously served as an assistant coach at UH. From 1999-2002 he roamed the sidelines behind coaching legend Vince Goo, helping the 'Bows to three consecutive WNIT berths and accumulating a 69-25 record during his tenure. Newlee parlayed his success under Goo into his first head coaching job at Idaho State from 2002-2008, before being named head coach at Idaho.
SLOW STARTS AND CLOSE FINISHES
The 'Bows' 1-7 record to begin the season is not ideal and can be
contributed to one significant statistical red flag, "slow starts." UH is being outscored 132-96 in the first quarter through its first eight games this year, a -38 difference. The remaining three-quarters of the game are nearly neck and neck, with UH being minus four in both the second and fourth quarters, while finishing plus three in the third stanza.
