HONOLULU – A total of 38 current and former University of Hawai'i at Manoa student-athletes were honored among their peers for their dedication in the classroom at the 2018 Mid-Year Commencement at the Stan Sheriff Center on Saturday.
Among the UH student-athletes participating in the graduation ceremony, 17 were from women's sports, 14 played men's sports and seven were from co-ed sports.
The women's cross country/track and field team represented the largest contingency among UH's women's sports on Saturday with 11 current or former student-athletes. Other graduates on the women's side came from soccer (2), volleyball (1), tennis (1), water polo (1) and swimming & diving (1).
UH's football team, which concludes the 2018 season with the SoFi Hawai'i Bowl on Dec. 22, had 11 graduates honored to lead the way on the men's side. Men's golf, men's swimming and men's tennis all had one graduate apiece at the winter graduation.
Hawai'i's co-ed sports were also celebrated with graduates from cheerleading (4) and sailing (3).
Each of the graduates received an H-logo courtesy of the UH Letterwinners Club and were honored in a pre-graduation reception breakfast along with their families.
Author, advocate and television host Janet Mock served as the ceremony's speaker on Saturday.
