Clinch Hoycard Departing from UH to Return Home

Honolulu—Head coach Laura Beeman and the University of Hawai'i women's basketball team announced on Thursday the departure of sophomore forward Mackenzie Clinch Hoycard as she'll return home to Australia.

"I valued my time here at UH, but I miss home," said Clinch Hoycard. "I love this team, coach Beeman has always been supportive, and Hawai'i has treated me so well, but I love my home in Australia. I'll miss my teammates and my coaches because I know they'll accomplish great things this season."

A native of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, Clinch Hoycard saw limited playing time during her freshman season due to injury, as she didn't make her debut for the Rainbow Wahine till Dec. 30 of 2017. The 6'3 forward showcased the ability to hit the outside shot as well as being a threat in the post during her year and a half with the 'Bows. Injuries have limited her availability and caused her to miss practices and valuable game time.

"This program loves Mackenzie (Clinch Hoycard)," said Beeman. "She's a high-caliber player, but more importantly she's a great person with a big heart. Her teammates love her, our coaches love her, and I love her. We don't want to see her leave but support her and her decision.

The Rainbow Wahine will hold their first public event this Sunday with the Green and White scrimmage at 2:30 p.m. inside the Stan Sheriff Center. As a part of the festivities, the team will honor Clinch Hoycard by giving her a proper send-off before heading back to Australia.
