HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team played its third straight match in as many days against a ranked opponent. The Rainbow Warriors came close but fell 5-2 to No. 24 Texas Tech on Sunday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex.
The 'Bows started with doubles and almost won their first match of the season as UH's No. 1 duo of
Felix Albert ant
Fabian Woehrl was just edged out by Texas Tech's 29
th-ranked pair of Jackson Cobb and Alex Sendegeya in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (5). The Raiders swept the doubles matches to earn the first point of the match.
In singles, both Rainbow Warrior rookies
Aleksa Lazarevic and
Tristan Martins recorded their first collegiate wins of their UH careers. Lazarevic held off TTU's Ilgiz Valiev in a three-set battle on the No. 4 court, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-4. No. 6 Martins won in straight sets over Cobb, 7-6 (5), 6-2. No. 1
Blaz Seric came very close to winning his first singles match, but he fell in three sets and by just one break in the deciding frame, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
The Rainbow Warriors have a couple of days before taking on Texas Tech in a rematch on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at the UH Tennis Complex.
