HONOLULU—The UH Anuenue Invite started on Wednesday at the UH Tennis Complex with high-powered women's tennis teams (No. 6 Pepperdine and No. 9 Duke) competing with Hawai'i in the two-day tournament.
 
In doubles, Hawai'i's duo of Roxanne Resma and Michelle Pits recorded UH's only doubles win of the day, defeating Duke's Rebecca Smaller and Ema Lazic, 6-4. Resma and Pits held a 5-2 lead, but Smaller and Lazic won two straight to close the gap. But the 'Bows bounced back to seal the win.
 
In other doubles action, Duke won their other three matches played, including the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked pairs in the nation. No. 1 Samantha Harris and Kelly Chu held off Pepperdine's Evgeniya Levashova and Dzina Milovanovic, 7-5, while No. 2 Kaitlyn McCarthy and Ellyse Hamlin defeated the Waves' duo of Luisa Stefani and Mayar Serif, 6-4. Rookie Taylor Lau posted UH's only singles win of the day. Lau dropped the first set, but came back strong to even her second singles match of the day at 1-1. Lau then cruised in the third set to seal the win over Duke's Ema Lazic, 4-6, 6-3, 6-0. Lau has won three of her last four matches that she's played. Hawai'i's Michelle Pits won her first set, before dropping the last two sets to fall to Duke's Hannah Zhao, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. UH's Alzbeta Houbova came up short against Duke's Rebecca Smaller, falling in the first set by a break before losing the second in a tie-breaker, 6-4, 7-6 (5).
 
The Waves of Pepperdine won all six of their singles matches, while Duke posted a 4-4 record on Wednesday afternoon.

The UH Anuenue Invite concludes tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 18 with the first serve slated for 3:00 pm.
