SPOKANE, Wash. – The Hawai'i women's soccer team was held scoreless for the fourth consecutive game, falling 4-0 at Gonzaga on Sunday.
India Jencks scored twice for the Bulldogs (4-0-1) while Callie Best and Sophia Viviano also registered goals for Gonzaga.
Jencks got the scoring started with a header from inside the box that slipped through the fingertips of UH (2-4) goalkeeper
Alexis Mata in the 21st minute. Savanah Van Citters picked up the assist on the eventual game-winner. Less than 10 minutes later, Viviano made it 2-0 in favor of Gonzaga with a shot from inside the box.
Gonzaga added to its lead early in the second half when Jencks scored her second goal in the 49th minute. Best made it 4-0 after Mata made a save, but was unable to corral the rebound before Best slammed it home.
The 'Bows scored a total of four goals in their first two games before being held scoreless in their last four. UH had its chances on Sunday, particularly in the second half, where the Rainbow Wahine logged five of their six shots, including threatening opportunities from
Kellsie Gleason,
Sonest Furtado, and
Raisa Strom-Okimoto that missed the mark.
Gonzaga owned a 23-6 advantage in shots, including a 9-2 lead in shots on goal. The Bulldogs also led 8-3 in corner kicks. Mata made five saves for UH while GU winning goalkeeper Isabel Jones made two in 65 minutes of play. Drew Williams logged 25 minutes in goal for the Bulldogs and did not face a shot on goal.
UH wraps up its three game road trip at Idaho State on Sept. 3.
