Rainbow Wahine Soccer Hits The Road For Three Games

HONOLULU – After splitting four home matches to open the season, the Hawai'i women's soccer team (2-2) will hit the road this week for the first time in 2017. UH will take on Idaho (Sept. 1), Gonzaga (Sept. 3), and Idaho State (Sept. 5).in the first three games of a stretch of seven consecutive road games.
 
The Rainbow Wahine are coming off losses to Seattle U and Pacific after a pair of overtime wins to open the season. After scoring a combined four goals in the first two games of the season, UH was shut-out in its last two games. The 'Bows tallied 26 shots, including 11 on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net against the Redhawks and Tigers.
 
UH has history on its side on its upcoming road trip, owning a combined 14-3 (.824) record all-time against its three opponents. The 'Bows are 7-2 against Idaho, 3-0 against Gonzaga, and 4-1 against Idaho State. UH picked up wins over Idaho and Idaho State last season.
 
The Vandals are 1-2-1 entering the week, but has only scored one goal on the season. After a 1-0 win over UC Riverside on an 89th-minute own goal, the Vandals scored in the game's final second against Boise State to force an eventual 1-1 draw. Idaho is 1-1 against Big West teams this season, falling 3-0 at UC Santa Barbara before beating UC Riverside. Goalkeeper Makayla Presgrave has stopped 12 shots this season with a .706 save percentage and a 1.18 goals-against average, yielding five goals in four games. Kelly Dopke scored Idaho's lone offensive goal this season, while Olivia Baggerly leads the team with 13 shots and four shots on goal.
 
The Bulldogs have matched their best start in program history, going 3-0-1 through their first four games of 2017 under first-year head coach Chris Watkins. Gonzaga earned wins over South Dakota, Omaha and Portland State, and tied No. 22 SMU. GU has already scored nine goals with seven goal-scorers and two multi-goal scorers early in the season. Madeline Gotta leads GU with five points on two goals and an assist, while Callie Best has four points with two goals. India Jencks is one of five Gonzaga players with one goal, and leads the team with 13 shots and seven shots on goal. Isabel Jones has played all but 12 minutes in net for the Bulldogs, with 14 saves and two goals-against for a .875 save percentage and 0.49 goals-against average. Gonzaga is off until facing Hawai'i on Sept. 3.
 
Idaho State enters the week with a 1-2 overall record, dropping their last two contests to Michigan (4-0) and Boise State (1-0) after a season-opening win over Chicago State (3-0). Michaela Didericksen, Kathryn Leachman and Meaghan Bare have each scored one goal for the Bengals this season. Shawna Hennings and Katie Hogarth have shared time in goal for ISU, with Hennings playing 207 minutes, making 16 saves with a .842 save percentage and 1.31 goals-against average. Hogarth has played 63 minutes, yielding two goals with a .600 save percentage and 2.85 GAA. ISU will play Utah State (Sept. 1) and UTEP (Sept. 3) before facing UH.
 
After hosting the annual Alumnae Game on Sept. 10, UH will be back on the road to face Arizona State (Sept. 15) and Grand Canyon (Sept. 17) before opening Big West Conference play at UC Davis (Sept. 28) and Long Beach State (Oct. 1).
