UH Finishes Day 2 At NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Sophomore swimmer Metin Aydin and sophomore diver Johan Sandell continued competition at the NCAA Championships on Friday with Aydin setting another school record.

A day after setting a new school mark in the in the 200 individual medley, Aydin was back in the pool to compete in the 100 backstroke prelims on Friday. The German native finished 19th to just miss the cut for the finals. But Aydin still put out a strong performance by clocking a time of 46:27, surpassing the school record he set less than a month ago (46:50) at the Bulldog Invitational.

Meanwhile, Sandell finished 41st in the 3-meter diving championship with a score of 285.90. Sandell, who averaged  47.65 over the course of his six dives, scored a high of 54.00 on his final dive, an inward 2 1/2 somersault pike.

UH, which sits in 31st place,  will wrap up competition Saturday with Aydin swimming his signature event, the 200 backstroke, and Sandell competing in the platform diving championship.
