Men’s Basketball Kicks Off December Homestand This Wednesday

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team (4-2) hosts the first of seven straight non-conference home contests when it faces Prairie View A&M (2-5) on Wednesday, Dec. 6. Tipoff is 7:00 pm. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
 
The Rainbow Warriors are coming home from its first road game of the season, an 80-60 loss at Utah. UH looks to rebound against Prairie View (2-5), the second SWAC squad that UH will face this year. UH is a perfect 20-0 against SWAC squads, including an 82-70 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the season opener. 
 
The 'Bows are 4-1 at home so far this year with its lone loss coming to Nevada, a squad currently ranked in the AP (22) and Coaches (24) Top 25. UH will playing its remaining games in December in the friendly confines of the Stan Sheriff Center. Following its game against Prairie View, UH will take on intra-state rival UH Hilo at home on Saturday, Dec. 9.

About PVAM: The Panthers dropped to 2-5 overall following a 69-57 loss at New Mexico State on Sunday...Gary Blackston led the way with 19 points for PVAM...the Panthers are led by the duo of Blackston (16.4) and Zachary Hamilton (17.3) who account for a little more than half the team's points...PVAM has played all seven of its games away from home.
 
'Bow Bits: Four of UH's six games have been decided by double-figures, including the last three contests…after out-rebounding each of its first four opponents, the 'Bows have lost the battle of the boards the last two games by an average of 9.0…the UH reserves have contributed better than 30 points in each of the last two games….UH averaged just 57.0 ppg in its two losses to Nevada and at Utah…Brocke Stepteau is fourth on the team in scoring, yet is the most consistent scorer with a team-high four double-digit scoring games…Jack Purchase leads the Big West and ranks 16th in the NCAA with a 4.0 assist/turnover ratio….after being limited to two points in just 10 minutes against Adams State,  Mike Thomas had 12 points and six rebounds at Utah.
