The Hawai'i women's basketball team will hit the road for the first time in a month when it opens a three-game road trip at Arizona on Dec. 17. Tip-off against the Wildcats is set for 12:00 p.m. HT.
The Rainbow Wahine (5-4) and Wildcats (2-6) are both looking to bust out of current slumps or sorts. Hawai'i has dropped three of its last four games after a 64-62 overtime loss to Idaho State on Dec. 8, while Arizona has lost six straight after two convincing wins to open the season.
Hawai'i senior guard
Sarah Toeaina is coming off back-to-back 25-plus point scoring performances. She matched her career-high with 25 points in a win over Montana State on Dec. 4 before going off for 27 points against Idaho State on Dec. 8. Toeaina ranks 39th nationally with a 56.7 field goal percentage this season.
Arizona boasts four double-figure scorers, but a lack of depth has bitten the Wildcats. JaLea Bennett leads Arizona with 15.5 points per game, followed by Marlee Kyles' 11.4, Destiny Graham's 10.5 and Sam Thomas' 10.4. Seven Arizona players are averaging more than 24 minutes per game, but nobody else is averaging more than eight. Arizona will host New Mexico State on Dec. 14 before welcoming Hawai'i.
Sunday's meeting will be the sixth all-time between the Rainbow Wahine and Wildcats. Arizona owns a 3-2 lead in the all-time series, and won the last meeting, 62-50, in 2008.
UH will wrap up its road trip at the Duel in the Desert at Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas where the Rainbow Wahine will face No. 19 Texas A&M (Dec. 20) and No. 9 Oregon (Dec. 22).
