HONOLULU – A 12-0 fourth-quarter run lifted the Hawai'i women's basketball team to its fourth consecutive victory, 70-63 over Marist, on the opening day of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown on Friday evening.
Marist broke a 51-all tie early in the fourth quarter with a 6-0 run that gave the Red Foxes (1-3) their largest lead since the first quarter with six minutes to play. After a UH timeout, the Rainbow Wahine scored the next 12 points, holding Marist scoreless for more than five minutes en route to victory. The win is Hawai'i's fourth-straight since dropping the season-opener.

Sarah Toeaina scored 14 points to lead three Rainbow Wahine players in double-figures. Toeaina added five rebounds and four assists, and hit 6-of-9 from the field. Sophomore
Julissa Tago had 13 points and connected on all four of her free throws in the final 36 seconds of the game to help seal the win. In all, Hawai'i hit 7-of-8 at the foul line in the final minute to keep the Red Foxes from cutting into the lead.

Makenna Woodfolk had 12 points—including nine in the first quarter – and 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the young season. Junior
Tia Kanoa stuffed the stat sheet once again, finishing with four points, eight assists, five rebounds and two steals with just one turnover for Hawai'i.
Rachel Odumu finished with nine points and
Lahni Salanoa added eight for the 'Bows.
Marist held a 40-33 rebounding advantage and outscored Hawai'i 24-5 in second-chance points with a 17-7 lead in offensive boards. The Red Foxes also converted 14 of their 15 free throw attempts (93.3 percent) to keep the game close despite being convincingly out-shot from the field. UH connected on 45.1 percent (23-of-51) from the field while Marist shot just 32.8 percent (22-of-67) overall. UH held the Red Foxes to just 5-of-29 (17.2 percent) from 3-point range after entering the game with the second-best 3-point field goal defense in the Big West.
This is the third time in the last four seasons the Rainbow Wahine have started 4-1 through five games.
USC beat Purdue 58-46 earlier Friday in the first game of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown. The round-robin tournament resumes Saturday when UH hosts Purdue (5:30 p.m.) after USC takes on Marist. Hawai'i will host USC on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. to wrap up the three-day event.
