HONOLULU – The Purdue women's basketball team opened Saturday's game against Hawai'i on a 9-2 run and never looked back, snapping UH's four-game win streak with a 79-67 win in the Stan Sheriff Center on the second day of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown.
The Boilermakers (4-2) torched the nets from the opening tip, shooting 63 percent from the field (10-of-16), including 4-of-7 from 3-point range in the first quarter. Purdue built its lead to as many as 30 points in the third quarter before the Rainbow Wahine chipped away over the final 15 minutes of the game.

Sarah Toeaina led the Rainbow Wahine with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting, and
Julissa Tago and
Lahni Salanoa added 11 points each. Freshman
Lauren Rewers made her first career start and finished with eight points on 3-of-8 from the field, and hit both of her free throw attempts.
The Hawai'i offense shot 43.4 percent (23-of-53) from the field, but couldn't keep pace with a Boilermaker squad that hit 54.2 percent (32-of-59) of its shots and out-rebounded the Rainbow Wahine 33-25.
Ae'Rianna Harris led Purdue with 18 points and six rebounds after hitting 9-of-11 from the field, while Lamina Cooper and Dominique Oden each finished with 14 points.
Hawai'i will host USC on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown finale.
