n PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif.—University of Hawai'i women's tennis players
Petra Melounova and
Roxanne Resma competed on the opening day of Qualifying Rounds in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championship on Tuesday. Melounova played in the singles bracket and the pair together competed in qualifying doubles at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
In singles, Melounova fell in straight sets to California's Olivia Hauger, 6-3, 6-2. Melounova was just the second Rainbow Wahine to start the prestigious tourney in the Qualifying Round other than Sophie Kobuch who accomplished the feat in September of 2008. Melounova was then slated to take on Loyola Marymount's Eva Marie Voracek tomorrow. But Melounova withdrew due to injury.
In doubles, Melounova and Resma also started play in the Qualifying Round. The Hawai'i duo fell to Virginia's Rosie Johanson and Meghan Kelley, 8-3. Melounova and Rema are scheduled to play USC's Gabby Smith and Rianna Valdes at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
