Winners of four of their last five games, the University of Hawai'i women's basketball team aims to continue its winning ways when it hits the road this week, beginning with a match-up at UC Riverside on Feb. 2.
 
The Highlanders were the only Big West team to sweep the regular-season series against Hawai'i last season, taking a pair of tight games from the Rainbow Wahine, including an 81-77 victory over UH at Riverside in the last meeting.
 
Thursday's showdown between the Rainbow Wahine and Highlanders will break a tie for fourth place in the Big West standings at the mid-way point of the conference season, as both teams enter at 4-3 in the Big West. Hawai'i has won two straight and is 8-11 overall, while UC Riverside is 10-10 after dropping a pair of road games last week.
 
Hawai'i junior Sarah Toeaina has been particularly impressive throughout Big West play. Her 17.3 points per game and 53.2 field goal percentage in conference games both rank third in the league. Sophomore Lahni Salanoa went a perfect 6-for-6 from the field, including 4-for-4 from 3-point range, in Hawai'i's win over Cal Poly on Jan. 28, and ranks second in the Big West in both field goal percentage (58.7 percent) and 3-point field goal percentage (55.0 percent) in conference games.
 
UC Riverside's Rejane Verin leads the team with 16.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.0 blocks per game. Simone DeCoud averages 11.9 points per game and Lauren Holt adds 11.1 for the Highlanders.
 
The Rainbow Wahine wrap up their penultimate regular-season road trip at CSUN on Feb. 4 before coming home for four consecutive games, beginning with a re-match against UC Riverside on Feb. 8.
