Match Notes
HONOLULU - After a grueling Mountain Pacific Sports Federation road trip, the University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team returns to the friendly confines of the Stan Sheriff Center for a pair of non-conference matches against Grand View, Friday, Jan. 27 at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 29 at 5:00 p.m.
The Rainbow Warriors (6-2, 1-2 MPSF) finished 1-2 on their road trip, losing both ends of a two-match series with No. 4 Long Beach State while defeating No. 6 UC Irvine in the teams' lone match-up to close out the trip.
Grand View (3-0), located in Des Moines, Iowa, competes in the Heart of America Athletic Conference and is ranked No. 2 in the NAIA's Preseason Top 10 Coaches Poll. The Vikings are the reigning conference champion and national runner-up after posting a 20-8 record in 2016. Senior outside hitter Pedro Cardoso and junior setter Felipe Rosa were both named to the championship's all-tournament team last season. GVU's roster features four players from the state of Hawai'i while its entire coaching staff including sixth-year head coach Donan Cruz are from the 50th state.
The teams will meet for the first time. UH enters the series riding a nine-match home win streak dating back to last season. In addition, the Warriors have won 17 straight against non-MPSF teams since 2014.
