Rainbow Wahine Tennis To Take On Washington, Kansas State

HONOLULU—The Rainbow Wahine tennis team returns to the UH Tennis Complex this week to take on Washington on Thursday at 3:00 pm followed by Kansas State on Saturday with the first serve coming at 11:00 am.

The Rainbow Wahine opened their 2017 season in Lahaina, Maui with the UH Spring Invitational against Kansas and Washington State. Hawai'i had some strong performances in the three-day tourney. No. 119 Petra Melounova won two of three singles matches as did Cindy Nguyen. Both of their only losses came against No. 65 Kansas' Anastasia Rychagova. Roxanne Resma notched a straight-set win over Victoria Matejevic of Washington State and had two tough losses. Klara Pribylova may have lost her three matches, but gave a valiant effort, falling twice in three set battles.

The Huskies and Wildcats both open their 2017 campaigns in Honolulu. Two of Washington's doubles teams are ranked with Miki Kobayashi and Nour Abbes coming in at No. 35 and Tami Grende and Stacey Fung at No. 37 respectively. The Huskies finished last season with a 13-10 overall record while going 4-6 in the Pac-12. Fung also led the Huskies last year with an overall singles record of 22-11 with a 12-8 dual match mark.

Kansas State finished 2016 with an 11-14 overall record, but struggle in the Big 12 with a 1-8 mark. Senior Livia Cirnu and sophomore Millie Stretton lead the Wildcats into the 2017 season. Cirnue posted an 18-11 overall singles record a year ago playing primarily at No. 5 and No. 6, while Stretton made an immediate impact as a freshman with a 20-11 overall record and a 14-7 mark in dual matches.
