WAIPAHU, O'ahu – Back-to-back goals by
Sonest Furtado less than a minute apart gave the Hawai'i women's soccer team all the cushion it needed as the Rainbow Wahine cruised to a 5-0 victory over the Hawai'i alumnae in exhibition play on Sunday at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
Addie Steiner put the Rainbow Wahine ahead 1-0 with a goal in the third minute before Furtado's goals in the 40
th and 41
st minutes built the lead to 3-0 before the break.
Raisa Strom-Okimoto made it 4-0 with a goal in the 50
th minute and
Lauren Takai added Hawai'i's fifth and final goal in the 89
th minute.
Over 30 alumnae participated in the event Sunday, which also included an alumnae vs. alumnae game.
The Rainbow Wahine (7-1-1) resume regular-season play when they open Big West Conference action at Cal Poly (Sept. 30) and UC Santa Barbara (Oct. 2). Hawai'i's next home action is Oct. 6 when UC Riverside visits WPSS.
