Softball Hosts Military Appreciation Day On Saturday

HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i softball team hosts its annual "Military Appreciation Day" this Saturday, April 9 with a doubleheader against CSUN beginning at 2:00 pm at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

The Rainbow Wahine will be wearing special Military Appreciation Under Armour jerseys with patches representing all the different military units in Hawai'i. Fans will enjoy the the Marine Corps Forces Pacific band who will be on hand to play prior to the doubleheader as well as the National Anthem and Hawai'i Pono'i.

The ceremonial "First Pitch" will be thrown out by Brigadier General Suzanne Vares-Lum. Vares-Lum is the Mobilization Assistant to Director of Strategic Plans and Policy, U.S. Pacific Command at Camp Smith, Hawai'i. Brigadier General Vares-Lum was commissioned as a Distinguished Military Graduate in the Military Intelligence Corps on May 15, 1998 through the ROTC program at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from UH in 1989 and her Master's of education in 1996. In addition, she is also a graduate of the U.S. Army War College and earned a Master of Strategic Studies degree in 2011. She has earned the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Iraqui Campaign Medal.

Also on hand will be the Univeristy of Hawai'i Air Force ROTC's color guard who will participate in the pre-game festivities. There will also be a Recruiter's Tent at the ballpark on Saturday.

Who: Hawai'i (17-19, 1-2 Big West) vs. CSUN (21-16, 1-2 Big West)
When: Saturday, April 9 at 2:00 pm (doubleheader)
Where: Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium (1,200) - Honolulu, O'ahu
Admission is FREE to all home UH softball games.
Promotions: First Hawaiian Bank is the series sponsor and will provide great prizes for the winners of the popular "Ballpark Bingo." Saturday is "MilitaryAppreciation Day" at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. The team will be wearing special fatigue-type jerseys designed by Under Armour for the game. Fans will enjoy listening to the Marine Corps Forces Pacific Band. Brigadier General Suzanne Vares-Lum will the throwing out the first pitch while the University of Hawai'i Air Force ROTC will be presenting its Color Guard. There will also be a Recruiter's table at the ballpark.
