Box Score (pdf)SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – For the second straight night, No. 7 UC Santa Barbara got the best of the eighth-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team, winning in straight sets, Saturday, at Rob Gym. Set scores for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rematch was 25-18, 25-20, 25-23.
With the loss, the Rainbow Warriors (14-11, 9-11 MPSF) have all but locked up the No. 7 seed in the MPSF Tournament in two weeks. UH concludes the regular season with a pair of MPSF matches against California Baptist, April 8 & 9, in Honolulu.
Coupled with Friday's four-set loss, UH has now dropped six straight to the Gauchos in Santa Barbara dating back to 2012. UCSB (17-9, 12-8) is battling with Pepperdine for the fifth spot in the tournament.
UH's middle attack of
Nainoa Frank and
Hendrik Mol proved to be the most effective on the night for the Warriors. The duo combined for 15 kills – eight by Frank and seven by Mol – without an error by either on .625 hitting.
The rest of the team struggled, combining for 26 kills and 21 errors. UH hit .225 as a team compared to .417 for the Gauchos. The Warriors managed five aces, including two by
Iain McKellar.
Matt Marsh led the Gauchos with 10 kills, hitting .435 while Austin Kingi and Henri Cherry each tallied nine kills.
