After dropping the first two sets, the Rainbow Warriors (10-9, 5-9 MPSF) snapped BYU's 35-set win streak with a 25-23 victory in the third. BYU had swept 11 straight opponents and had not lost a set since Jan. 23. The Cougars (16-12, 12-2) extended their overall match win streak to 12 straight and swept the season series with UH for the second straight year.
Two nights after BYU hit .464 and opposite Ben Patch torched the Warriors with 22 kills on .700 hitting, UH held the Cougars to .286 hitting while Patch posted 17 kills on .263 hitting.
Three Warriors reached double figures led by
Sinisa Zarkovic's 16 kills.
Kupono Fey added 14 kills while
Stijn van Tilburg had 12. Zarkovic and Fey each served up two aces. Libero
Kolby Kanetake recorded a season-high 18 digs and setter

Van Tilburg connected on his first four swings to give UH a 10-7 lead early in Set 1. The Cougars rallied with six straight points, three via Sander aces. UH got within one at 16-15 following a Fey kill. The Cougars stretched their lead to 22-18 after consecutive questionable calls, which went BYU's way by, including an illegal screen on the Warriors. BYU closed out the set with a kill by Price Jarman.
The teams battled early in Set 2 before the Cougars out-scored the Warriors 7-2 for a 13-9 lead. Hawai'i rallied to tie it at 17-17 after three straight Cougar errors. With the score tied at 18, the Cougars ran off four straight – three by UH errors – for a 22-18 lead. The Warriors closed to within 23-22 after consecutive kills by Zarkovic but the Cougars closed it out with a kill by Langlois and Fey hitting error.
UH grabbed a 13-8 lead in Set 3 after a five-point run, which included back-to-back Zarkovic aces. BYU used a 5-0 run to take an 18-15 lead but the Warriors answered with a 5-0 run of their own for a 20-18 lead. With the score tied at 23, the Warriors finished off the set with kills by

Down 13-12 in Set 4, the Cougars scored six straight – including three UH hitting errors – for an 18-13 lead. BYU extended its lead to 20-14 before the Warriors rallied to within 21-18. But that would be as close as they'd get as the Cougars put the finishing touches on a four-set victory.
The Warriors will next travel to CSUN for a two-match series, March 11-12 in Northridge, Calif.
