Women's Hoops Hosts Final Two Games; Saturday Is Senior NIght

Game Notes

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team (17-10, 10-4 Big West) returns home to host its final two home games of the season against UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, March 3 followed by Senior Night on Saturday, March 5. Both games begin at 7:00 pm and will be played in the Stan Sheriff Center. Six Rainbow Wahine will be playing their final home games—Brianna Kennedy, Connie Morris, Kalei Adolpho, Ashleigh Karaitiana, Destiny King and Marissa Wimbley. Saturday is a "Whiteout" game and fans are encouraged to wear white shirts. Saturday is also the Rainbow Wahine's Second Annual Youth Outreach Sneaker Drive. Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently used sneakers to donate for at-risk and homeless youth of O'ahu.

Last week, Hawai'i split their two road games, soundly defeating Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, 70-50 but falling in a heartbreaking game to league-leading UC Riverside on Saturday, 81-77. Against the Titans, the 'Bows were led by Karaitiana who scored a team-high 17 points, tying her season high with five made 3-pointers. King added 11 points and became the 20th member of Hawai'i's 1,000 point club and just the 11th UH player to record 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in her career. King is now just nine assists away from becoming just the fifth Rainbow Wahine in history to tally 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 250 assists. Currently, she has 1,018 points, 645 rebounds and 241 assists in her career.

King continues to lead UH with a career-high average of 10.6 points per game which ranks her at No. 13 in the Big West. She also leads UH with 32 steals  and is tied for the team-lead with 64 assists with Karaitiana. King is second on the team and No. 9 in the league with 6.1 rebounds per game.

Center Megan Huff has put together a solid season in just her second year with the Rainbow Wahine. She has appeared in all 27 games with four starts and leads the team with 6.4 rebounds per game, which ranks her at No. 6 in the Big West. Huff also has recorded team-highs with 68 offensive rebounds and 24 blocked shots. She is No. 4 in the conference with a .500 field goal percentage (94-for-188) and has tallied three double-doubles this season.

Karaitiana has been one of the 'glue' players for the Rainbow Wahine throughout her career. She is tied for the team lead with 32 made treys with Briana Harris as well as in assists with King at 64. She is averaging 8.4 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Last week at Cal State Fullerton, she passed former UH-standout Nani Cockett at No. 2 in UH's all-time record for made 3-pointers. Karaitiana made five treys in the game to raise her career total to 133, passing Cockett's 128.

Earlier this season, UH edged out UC Santa Barbara on the road at the Thunderdome, 63-62. Karaitiana drained a 3-pointer with 14-seconds left in the game to lift the 'Bows to the one-point win. UH's seniors were clutch against the Gauchos, leading a comeback and scoring 21 of UH's last 23 points in the game.

Hawai'i earned its first ever win on the road at Cal Poly (Feb. 4), holding off the Mustangs, 64-58. King came up huge for UH down the stretch, scoring eight of her team-high 12 points in the fourth quarter alone, while fellow senior Marissa Wimbley drained a trio of treys in the second half and scored five points in the last four minutes to help UH seal the win. In just her second start this season, Megan Huff played a solid game in the post, adding six points and two steals with a game-high nine rebounds, a season-high four blocked shots and a career-high four assists.
