Women's Hoops Host Long Beach State in Pivotal Big West Battle

Game Notes

HONOLULU-The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team (14-9, 7-3 Big West) returns home to host two games in two weeks, beginning with a pivotal match-up against Long Beach State (17-5, 6-2 Big West) this Thursday, Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m. The women's basketball game is the first of a doubleheader with the UH men's basketball team which will be playing UC Irvine at 8:00 p.m.

The Rainbow Wahine are riding a season-long four game-win streak and UH is now 9-2 in away games this season.Last week, the 'Bows swept their two games on the road, defeating Cal Poly 64-58 and then coming back to edge out UC Santa Barbara, 63-62. In both games, senior Destiny King refused to let Hawai'i lose as she sparked UH in both games.

Hawai'i then rallied past UC Santa Barbara on Feb. 6. Ashleigh Karaitiana drilled a 3-pointer with 14-seconds left on the clock to knock off UCSB, 63-62. In the game, a trio of seniors came through for UH. Karaitiana notched 10 of her 12 points in the fourth quarter alone. She sank her first trey of the game with 2:17 left on the clock and her last 3-point dagger came with 14-seconds left. Karaitiana was 5-of-7 from the floor in the game with four boards and an assist, while King led all scorers with 17 points to go with a team-high eight rebounds. King also contributed with five assists and she made 9-of-12 rebounds. In the fourth quarter King once again came up big, scoring seven points with four rebounds and two assists while making five free throws down the stretch.

Overall, Hawai'I continues to be led by King, who is averaging a career-high 10.4 points per game to go with 5.8 boards per game. She also leads UH with 26 steals and is second with 55 assists this season. Megan Huff has started the last three games and has not disappointed. Huff leads UH-the top rebounding team in the conference-with 6.2 boards per game while scoring 8.9 points per game. She also has a team-high 22 blocks.

ABOUT THE 49ERS:
Long Beach State is coming off its first overtime game of the season last Thursday at home against CSUN. The 49ers won 74-71 and were led by Raven Benton who recorded her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Anna Kim led her squad with a team-high 17 points.

LBSU has won their last five-straight games and are percentage points in front of UH for second place in the conference. The 49ers lead the league and are ranked 12th in the country forcing 21.5 turnovers per game, while their defense has stifled 12 opposing teams to 60 points or lower this season.

UH and LBSU squared off to open the Big West season at the Walter Pyramid on Jan. 7. The Rainbow Wahine finished the game shooting at .417 FGs (25-60) over LBSU's .340 FG% (18-53), out-rebounding the Beach by a staggering 52-29 boards and pulling down 20 offensive and 32 defensive.
